Magnificent Matariki Art
Happy Matariki everyone!
On the 2 July, we celebrated the Māori New Year, a time to consider the year ahead. The days are starting to lengthen and spring will soon be here, we just need to get through this cold winter first!
Matariki and the Pleiades star cluster, have got many stories attached to them. We looked at two; one about how Ranginui and Papatuanuku were separated by Tāne Mahuta, and how Tāwhirimatea was so angry he ripped out his eyes and threw thunderbolts to the sky, creating the cluster, and another story about 7 sisters making kites, and them going to the sky. Ururangi’s kite was different from the rest, it was rainbow coloured. We have mixed these two stories to create the design of our kites.
My kite is a red and black Taniwha with a red and black background.
What stories have you heard about Matariki?

Amazing Matariki Art
Hello Bloggers
For the past few weeks, our hub has been doing an art project on Matariki. We started off by learning where the stars were positioned and drew them down on a piece of paper. We then had to draw the stars down as spirals on our piece of paper the annoying thing was we had to draw them backwards. Once we had done that we had to draw mountains down underneath the stars. When we had finished it off we had it checked by a teacher. After that, we copied our sketch onto a piece of polystyrene. Then once we had done that we got to dye our polystyrene with the colours of our choice. When we had finished that we had to lay the die on a piece of paper and after about twenty seconds of the dye being on the paper we were done. It was really hard to make but in the end, it turned out looking really good.

The Egg Drop
Hey Bloggers
Today we did a test with an egg. We had to create a protection for the egg for when it dropped so it would not crack. We first designed the protection and showed the teacher. We then started making it. It took about twenty minutes to make. We each shared some ideas we had and made it better every single time. But then it came to the drop. The drop was about 3.5 meters high. The teacher dropped it. It was looking good at the start but when she opened it there was yolk all over it. So we failed our design but at least we had a lot of fun making it.
